The women in my family use ovens in non-conventional ways. My aunt dries her hair over hers. Apparently, you can also stick your yarn in one to get it dry enough for knitting…
I dyed a really hideous skein of yarn tonight. A skein of Handmaiden Sea Silk in Lily Pond, it was very pretty as a skein, but it was so not working for me as a Clapotis. Add to the frog-pond puke color quite a few mistakes, and riiiiip… it was dying time.
I really wanted to knit it tonight! So I looked around, and well me-oh-my! I turned the oven to the lowest bake setting, (170 F) left the door open, and stuck the skein in there. It’s been drying very nicely. It should be done quite soon. I think I could have put it to 200 degrees and shut the door, but you never know – I didn’t want it to catch fire or something.
So I’m in the middle of a lovely night, dying yarn, reading How To Knit A Love Song (which I will probably raffle off in a subsequent post), listening to music, and generally being young and enjoying it.
What about you all?
i dry wet shoes in my oven….rather mundane, but there you go.
Hey, that’s pretty cool! I hope you’ll show us how the yarn turned out. I’ve only tried over-dying yarn a couple of times, with mixed results…
